Today, 23 February 2024, is the 79th Anniversary of the Flag Raising in 1945 by the U.S. Marines on Iwo Jima Island. The battle lasted for 36 days and this iconic image was taken on Mount Suribachi by photographer Joe Rosenthal. The popularity of this photo came to represent the courage and sacrifice of all American Service personnel throughout World War Two.
